Black Friday started as a humble pre-Christmas sale tradition in the USA a few years ago, but this holiday has changed a lot since then. It’s now as popular as online Blackjack, and with the amazing special deals and discounts, you can win in a whole other way!

Nowadays, hundreds of thousands of people across the globe gear up for this fantastic shopping opportunity each year – and 2019’s edition of Black Friday is set to be the biggest and busiest yet! This year, Black Friday will take place on November 29, 2019, so be sure to save the date on your calendar if you don’t want to miss out. There will be plenty of awesome deals around every corner, including prices that have been slashed by as much as 90% to give you a monetary break right before the Christmas shopping rush begins.

The History of Black Friday

Black Friday is an iconic annual event indeed, but have you ever wondered how it all started? Interestingly, the name itself was first used not to address the yearly capitalist bonanza that we know, but rather to refer to the crash of the American gold market on September 24, 1869. It was on this day that 2 ruthless Wall Street bankers bought up as much of the country’s gold as they could, aiming to drive the prices through the roof and then sell the gold for a massive profit. However, the bankers’ plan backfired in a major way, bankrupting everyone from Wall Street to the farms of the deep South.

But what does this have to do with the Black Friday we know? Well, the most common story behind the post-Thanksgiving shopping tradition links it to the 1950s, when police in Philadelphia, US used the term to describe the chaos that took place on the day after Thanksgiving when crowds of tourists and shoppers poured into the city ahead of the Army-Navy football tournament held on that Saturday each year. Not only were the cops banned from taking the day off, but they also had to work extended shifts to deal with the traffic, the crowds, and the injuries that would ensue. Shoplifters were also a dime a dozen on the day, further adding to the police force’s stress levels!
