5 Important Books For Gamblers
Gambling books are a dime a dozen with most books available out there providing debatable or downright wrong tips on becoming a master gambler. Most of the same advice can be found for free with some digging online or a quick perusal of Wikipedia.
Let’s rather look at some great reads themed on gambling that will keep you entertained and glad you made the switch from land based casinos to online casinos.
5. Whale Hunt In The Desert
A Whale is an unofficial term in land based casinos for a high roller who has to have the best. These gamblers are pampered by the casino staff and induced to spend as much as possible before they leave.
The book was written by Deke Castleman and follows the adventures of “Superhost” Steve Cyr. Though written as a fictional tale, the level of detail makes it clear that there is a lot of truth in the story and how land based casinos milk their customers.
4. Roll The Bones
David G Schwartz is the director for Gaming Research for the University of Nevada. This book is essentially the history of modern gambling and it makes for a fascinating read.
The content is factual, anecdotal and just plain entertaining. The stories of famous gamblers are beautifully crafted and will really make you feel for them. Roll The Bones is my personal favourite on this list.
3. Lay The Favourite
Lay The Favourite is written by Beth Raymer who was a professional bookie for four years.
It takes a seedier look at the sports betting underworld and reveals how professional bookies can beat the house once they know how the system works. A fascinating read.
2. The Frugal Gambler
The Frugal Gambler follows Jean Scott as she tells stories of being a “gambling Grandma”.
She is an older gambler who recounts her trips around America and the rest of the world as she reveals her tips and advice for being a low stakes gambler and having a lot of success.
This is a great read for people who just enjoy gambling for the fun of it.
1. Blood Aces
Blood Aces tells the story of Benny Binion, most well known as the originator the World Series of Poker.
He was quite a ruthless character and this well researched book follows his life and times as he rises to power in Las Vegas.
