Online Roulette History
According to research conducted by us here at River Belle Online Casino
with title text: Online Casino>, Online Roulette History can be traced back to
the late 16th century. However, it is thought that the game could be much, much
older than that...
The early History of Roulette
The first modern reference to the game of Roulette (a French word meaning “little
or small wheel”) can be traced back to 1796. It mentions that the game of
Roulette is an amalgamation of five distinctly different games - the English “gambling
wheel” games Roly-Poly, Ace of hearts, E.O. (Even-Odd), and the Italian games
of Hoca and Biribi.
The oldest historical reference to the game of Roulette can be found in official
regulations published banning the playing of Roulette in French Canada. The first
literary reference of the game can be found in the 17th century French novel “La
Roulette, ou le Jour” by Jaques Lablee.
Roulette in the 19th and 20th century
During the 1800’s Roulette took first Europe and then the Americas by storm,
but it was the Frenchmen François and
Louis Blanc who brought the game to the attention of Prince Charles III, the then
ruler of Monaco, who gave them permission to build a casino in the Principality
of Monte Carlo. It was here that the game of Roulette prospered and because of the
Monte Carlo connection Roulette became known as the “King (should that not
have been Prince?) of Casino Games”.
Roulette in the Modern era
The modern Roulette History era only began in the mid 90’s with the growth
of the internet. Before that the game of Roulette had changed very little since
the 1700’s. However,Online Roulette
has not changed the basic principles of this great casino game at all. It has instead
given millions of people across the world access to one of the most exciting forms
of Online Casino entertainment available.
