Online Blackjack History
The History of Blackjack at River Belle
Online Casino
dates back to the casinos founding in 1997, but the history of the actual game of
Blackjack dates back to the early 1700’s when 3 games influenced the creation
of a brand new card game called Blackjack. These 3 games were “chemin de fer”,
“French Ferme” and “Vingt-et-Un” (twenty-and-one) and originated
in the popular casinos of Paris. Chemin de fer” and “Vingt-et-Un”
were the two most popular of these 3 games and are still played today:
Chemin De Fer
Chemin De Fer (French for "railroad") is the version of baccarat that
is mainly played in France. For more on the game of Baccarat please see the Online Baccarat section of this site.
Vingt-et-un
Vingt-en-Un is very similar to Blackjack, with only a few minor differences. These
differences are: only the dealer is allowed to double and the betting takes place
after each round. As with Online Blackjack, Vingt-en-Un's goal is to reach a 'natural'
21. The hand ranking system in Vingt-en-Un is also the same as Blackjack's.
The evolution of Blackjack through the ages
Blackjack can be traced back to Paris, France in the 1700’s. But it was not
until the 1800’s that Blackjack (or 21 as it was then known) found its way
to North Americathrough immigrants who left Europe to begin a new life in what was
then seen as the land of opportunity - the USA. 21, later to become Blackjack (why
will be explained shortly), was not a very popular game however - that was until
the rules were changed to make the odds more favourable to the player. One of these
rules changes was the introduction of a 10:1 bonus received when players drew the
Jack of Clubs (or Spades) along with the Ace of Spades. This resulted in gaming
history being made and the game of 21 became known forevermore as Blackjack. Since
then the game has become ever more popular and with the growth of online gaming
during the 1990’s has now become available to anyone with access to a computer
in the form of Online Blackjack.
